Jamie Peters

My passion for coaching started when I was a player for the Winnipeg Rifles of the Canadian Junior Football League. It was in those years that I fell in love with the game.
I saw the commitment needed as a player and a coach to compete at a high level, and I embraced the mental aspects of the game. The weekly game plans, implementing new systems, practice planning, film sessions, in-season and off-season planning became a tremendous interest. In 2007, during my last year as a player with the Rifles and as a University student, I became an assistant coach with the Churchill Bulldogs. It was this experience where my passion for coaching blossomed.
After playing for the Rifles, I had the opportunity to play two more seasons with the University of Manitoba Bisons. However, I had recently graduated with my degree in Education and had an opportunity to start my career at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School, with an opportunity to build a football program at the school. It was a tough decision to make, but I knew deep down I was more of a coach than a player.
From 2008 to 2010, I worked in my school to build and develop a football program. The team kicked off its inaugural season in 2010 in the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).
The Sabres football program has competed in all three divisions in the WHSFL since inception. We began with two winless seasons before capturing a Division 3 championship in 2012, and Division 2 championship in 2015. We’re now competing in Division 1, looking for that elusive third championship in three divisions.
At the provincial level, I’ve been a position coach, coordinator & head coach with U16 or U18 Team Manitoba Teams. At the High School level, I’ve been head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator with the Steinbach Sabres. I have a Master’s degree in Coaching Education, and I have completed many National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Courses. My expertise includes program building, creating team culture, coordinating a system, developing and mentoring coaches, installing systems, individual player skills & drills, and managing and communicating with players and parents.
My love for the game of football and specifically my love for teaching the game of football can help any coach or player improve their skills in a variety of areas. I look forward to the opportunity to “Teach you how to be successful between the lines”.
